Apostle and Evangelist Matthew

Matthew 9:9-13 (Mark 2:13-17, Luke 5:27-32)

Beloved, show mercy and compassion. We’ve entered one of the 4 Canonical Fasting periods of the liturgical year, the 40 days before Nativity. It’s a joyous fast because we’re anticipating the birth of the Savior. That’s why the Nativity Fast isn’t as strict.

  • Keep the fast of the Nativity.
  • But even if you can’t, or shouldn’t, or if you mess up and break the fast, be merciful to each other, and especially to your neighbor.
  • Over the next 40 days, dedicate yourself to showing mercy in every way, in every situation.

“To obey is better than sacrifice.” A Christmas present you can give to God that's worthy of a King.
