If you're visiting from out of town or have newly relocated to the area, and wish to approach the Holy Chalice -- contact the parish priest ahead of time. It's both a courtesy and the protocol. Introduce yourself. Let him know:
- the parish you attend(ed) and the jurisdiction;
- your priest's name;
- others who may be traveling with you;
- if you're properly prepared to receive Holy Communion, i.e.,
- not under a penance,
- fast regularly under the guidance of your father confessor,
- have gone to Holy Confession recently,
- observe a Eucharistic fast,
- in so far as you're able, at peace with others.
Then, please arrive for the Liturgy on time. And please stay afterwards, if you can, for a bite to eat and some fellowship.
